Making Modern Communications

Science Museum, London
Due to open Autumn 2014

The Science Museum, London has appointed Fraser Randall as the Project Manager for their ‘Making Modern Communications’ project. The project will cover 2,500m² and will replace the current Shipping gallery on the second floor of the central exhibition space. The gallery will deal with the development of modern electro magnetic communications from the first transatlantic cable up to cloud computing.

The project applied for HLF funding with the design and management team working on the second stage application from April to November 2011, and HLF confirming the funding in March 2012.

Fraser Randall will manage both the concept and design development, as well as the internal and external consultants and the design team from the initial development phase through to completion in Autumn 2014.

The exhibition explores the importance of creativity, and imagination, in the scientific process. The emphasis will be on a visual and intellectual experience where ideas are represented through scientific apparatus and objects. There will be audio-visuals, multi-media, commissioned art works and archive material.
