Fraser Randall acted as the Project, Content and
Design Manager for the integrated shell and core and exhibition
fit out of this HLF funded project.
A new, state of the art, waterfront building
was constructed to house
the National Maritime Museum’s small boat collection and other
galleries, exploring every aspect of maritime life in purpose built
surroundings. The Architects and Exhibition design team were appointed
on the same day to ensure the best possible integrated design process
between the building and its contents, and the project is now held
up as an outstanding example of such thinking.
The exhibitions are housed in seven galleries,
covering 2400sqm. Displays have been designed to rotate and enable
frequent collection change, and the project required extensive design
team management from the outset, to achieve fully co-ordinated structure,
electrical and design works.
The experiential “Dark Gallery”
featuring large scale collections integrated with large scale AV
has been nominated for several multi media awards.
