NMS Connect
Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh
2006, £800k
Fraser Randall was appointed as the Project
Manager, Cost Consultant and Planning Supervisor by the National
Museums of Scotland for the management of the design and implementation
of their new science zone interactive exhibition.
The design
by John Csaky Associates provided a link between the old Royal
Museum and the new Museum of Scotland. The content was displayed
on a balanced mix of AV software and electro mechanical interactives,
supported by simple graphics where necessary. The concept took
treasured large objects from the NMS collection and placed them
as icons for a variety of themes through which the story was
told.
The displays include the installation of
a Formula 1 car, the worlds second built locomotive, Wylam Dilley,
a 14m high Black Knight Rocket and an autogiro flying machine
suspended high in the atrium space. Fraser Randall programmed
and managed the installation of these large objects in advance
of the main works to tie in with building access requirements. |
