Cutty Sark Project
Cutty Sark Trust, London
Due to open Spring 2012
The Cutty Sark was built in 1869 to carry tea from China. In her working life she carried a wide range of cargos including tea from China and wool from Australia. In 1957, as the last surviving clipper ship, she was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II as a permanent memorial to the Merchant Navy in a purpose built dry berth close to the River Thames in Greenwich.
After nearly 50 years in dry dock it became apparent that the ship required a complete and urgent conservation programme. As part of the project it was decided to lift the ship 3.3 meters and support her on a new intervention. Cutty Sark’s hull of the ship will be enclosed in a glass canopy creating a dynamic new exhibition and function space underneath the ship.
Fraser Randall has been appointed as the Fit-outConstruction Manager for this fast track project and is charged with the management of the procurement, design development, installation and commissioning of all exhibition interpretation fit out works. It is anticipated that the exhibition will be ready for handover in the Spring of 2012. |
