The National Football Museum
Preston
2001, £3 million
Fraser Randall was appointed to act as Project
Managers for this HLF funded project. The museum consisted of two
galleries, the Finney Gallery to display the FIFA collection, and
the Shankly as an interactive exploratorium.
The National Football Museum serves as an
excellent example of a fast track project, taking only 16 months
from HLF stage 2 approval to completion. Fraser Randall was appointed
as the Design and Construction Manager for this complex project
integrating a new entrance feature and two new galleries of 1300sqm
of exhibition space.
The Museums FIFA Collection is housed beneath
the two newly built Finney and Shankly stands, with the museum adding
a new entrance, retail and café area, as well as an interconnecting
space for the two galleries. Housing them beneath the stands created
a challenging space in which to fit an exhibition, and required
stringent fire, life, and safety design, which Fraser Randall co-ordinated
between the architect, exhibition and service designers.
2003 – Shortlisted for European
Museum of the Year Award
2005/06 – largest visitor attraction of the year award.
