Ecos Millennium Centre
Ballymena, Northern Ireland
2000, £1 million
Fraser Randall was appointed as the Design,
Project and Construction Manager for this Millennium funded new
visitor attraction dedicated to sustainable environments. Notably
the building was designed to provide two thirds of its energy requirements
from sustainable sources within the site itself.
The three-gallery exhibition deals with educational
and environmental issues displayed through a wide variety of media,
with an in-the-round audio visual show as the centre piece. Fraser
Randall worked directly with the building architect, exhibition
designers and world renowned artists, implementing their installations
in and around the site.
Managing the process of simultaneous content
and architectural development ensured that the envelope performed
both to the users and operational needs whilst the content both
internal to the building and in the park site interfaced to meet
budget and condensed programme needs. The works were completed to
programme and within budget and the centre opened in the summer
of 2000.
